Waterfalls in South Dakota

South Dakota's waterfall geography is in the Black Hills. Roughlock Falls in Spearfish Canyon is a broad cascade on Spearfish Creek visible from a short trail — the canyon itself is one of the most dramatic limestone gorges in the Great Plains. Bridal Veil Falls in the same canyon is a roadside roadside spring-fed trickle. Spearfish Canyon has multiple smaller falls accessible from the scenic byway. Little Spearfish Falls upstream requires a 4-mile hike but gets far fewer visitors. Outside the Black Hills, the rest of South Dakota is too flat for waterfall development.
