Illinois has very limited waterfall geography. Cave-in-Rock State Park on the Ohio River has a small waterfall in the ravine below the famous cave. Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve near Lemont has a human-made waterfall feature. Starved Rock State Park has multiple canyon waterfall features that flow seasonally after heavy rain — the 18 sandstone canyons cut by meltwater at the end of the last ice age fill with temporary falls in wet seasons. For significant waterfall terrain, Illinois residents drive to Missouri or Wisconsin.
