Idaho's waterfall country runs through the Snake River Plain and the northern Panhandle. Shoshone Falls on the Snake River near Twin Falls is higher than Niagara at 212 feet and 900 feet wide, though heavily diverted for irrigation — best seen in spring when flows are highest. Twin Falls is the sister drop upstream, now mostly dry due to irrigation. Mesa Falls (Upper and Lower) in the Targhee National Forest near Ashton is one of the few intact falls in the Snake River watershed: Upper Mesa is 114 feet in a horseshoe bowl accessible by a short trail. Outlet Falls in the Columbia River drainage east of Goldendale has a large drop visible from a roadside pull-off.
