Swimming Holes in Utah

16 Sites Found Public & Accessible Land

Utah's swimming holes are high-desert features — carved by flash floods, filled by snowmelt, and often surprisingly beautiful. Zion Narrows at the top of the slot canyon has waist-deep swimming sections where the Virgin River fills the canyon wall-to-wall. Little Wild Horse Slot Canyon near Goblin Valley has swimming in the narrows after spring runoff. Homestead Crater near Midway is a geothermal hot spring dome with 90–95°F water accessible year-round. The swimming in Capitol Reef and Canyonlands is informal — technical canyons, not developed sites.

Always check current conditions before visiting — water levels, algae advisories, and access roads change seasonally. Never swim alone in remote sites. Tell someone your plans. Explore all swimming holes on the Trek4Free map →
