INTO THE WILD · SWIMMING HOLES
Oklahoma's swimming is at natural lakes and rivers. Turner Falls in the Arbuckle Mountains is the most famous: a 77-foot waterfall into a clear pool in a limestone gorge, with camping available — one of the most-visited natural swimming spots in the southern plains. The Illinois River near Tahlequah is popular for float trips and has designated swimming access through the Scenic Rivers area. Beavers Bend State Park on the Mountain Fork River near Broken Bow has cold, clear water in the Ouachita Mountain drainage.
Always check current conditions before visiting — water levels, algae advisories, and access roads change seasonally. Never swim alone in remote sites. Tell someone your plans. Explore all swimming holes on the Trek4Free map →
