Nevada's swimming geography is sparse and surprising. Lake Tahoe on the California border has clear, cold swimming at Sand Harbor and Hidden Beach on the Nevada side. Hoover Dam created Lake Mead — the largest reservoir in the US, with swimming at Boulder Beach. Valley of Fire State Park east of Las Vegas has a campground with access to a small natural pool in the red sandstone. The Ruby Mountains have alpine lake swimming east of Elko in the summer months, reached by the glacier-carved Lamoille Canyon road.
