Swimming Holes in New Jersey

21 Sites Found Public & Accessible Land

New Jersey's best swimming geography is the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area along the Pennsylvania border. The Delaware River has designated swimming at Milford Beach and multiple informal swimming spots along Route 209. The Flatbrook in Sussex County has cold trout-stream swimming on public land. The Pine Barrens rivers — Wading River, Mullica River — are dark with tannins from the pines but completely swimmable; the tea-brown color is natural and harmless.

Always check current conditions before visiting — water levels, algae advisories, and access roads change seasonally. Never swim alone in remote sites. Tell someone your plans. Explore all swimming holes on the Trek4Free map →
