New Hampshire's mountain swimming holes are cold, clear, and consistently uncrowded outside of peak midsummer weekends. Diana's Baths near North Conway is a series of cascading pools and waterfalls on Lucy Brook — flat trail, under a mile, no fee, just parking. The Swift River along the Kancamagus Highway has multiple pull-off swimming spots from Conway to Lincoln. Sabbaday Falls has a deep plunge pool accessible from a short Kancamagus trailhead. Bridal Veil Falls in Franconia Notch drains into a shallow pool at the base. The Pemigewasset River has swimming along the Lincoln Woods Trail. New Hampshire water stays cold — 60°F on hot days is typical even in August.
