Swimming Holes in Kentucky

20 Sites Found Public & Accessible Land

Kentucky's swimming holes are in the gorge country of the east and the creek drainages of the Daniel Boone National Forest. Yahoo Falls near Whitley City is the tallest waterfall in Kentucky, with a pool and shelter cave at the base. The Red River Gorge in Wolfe County has swimming in Clifty Creek below Courthouse Rock — cold, clear, and in one of the most spectacular gorge landscapes in the eastern US. Cumberland Falls on the Appalachian Plateau has a moonbow on full moon nights; the pool below the falls is accessible by a short trail.

Always check current conditions before visiting — water levels, algae advisories, and access roads change seasonally. Never swim alone in remote sites. Tell someone your plans. Explore all swimming holes on the Trek4Free map →
