INTO THE WILD · SWIMMING HOLES
Indiana's swimming holes are in the southern karst country. Clifty Falls State Park near Madison has swimming below a series of waterfalls in a deep gorge on the Ohio River bluff. Cataract Falls on the Eel River has the largest cascading waterfall in the state, with swimming access below the lower falls in Owen County. Turkey Run State Park in Parke County has cold gorge swimming in the sandstone ravines. The swimming season in southern Indiana runs late May through September.
Always check current conditions before visiting — water levels, algae advisories, and access roads change seasonally. Never swim alone in remote sites. Tell someone your plans. Explore all swimming holes on the Trek4Free map →
