Swimming Holes in Georgia

Georgia's swimming concentrates in the northern mountains. Amicalola Falls has a pool at the base of the highest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi, reached by a short trail. Raven Cliff Falls near Helen ends at a narrow waterfall pool in the Chattahoochee National Forest above the Hooch. DeSoto Falls in the Chestatee River drainage has two waterfall sections with swimming below the lower fall. The Chattooga River on the South Carolina border has legal swimming in the Wild and Scenic River corridor — the same section that runs Class III–IV whitewater. The swimming season in North Georgia runs April through October.
