Arkansas is the best swimming hole state east of the Rockies that nobody talks about. The Buffalo National River in the upper canyon near Steel Creek and Kyle's Landing has multiple swimming beaches in the most scenic stretch of the river. The Kings River above Kingston is warm, clear, and full of gravel bars by July — park at the private landowner easements along Route 21. The Mulberry River near Turner Bend Outfitter has gorge swimming with rope swings and deep pools in the Boston Mountains. The upper Little Missouri near Bard Springs Campground in the Ouachita National Forest is one of the best-kept secrets in the American South.
