Hot Springs in New Mexico

New Mexico's hot springs are primarily in the Jemez Mountains and the southern Rio Grande Rift. Spence Hot Springs near Jemez Springs is a free Forest Service site with two rock pools — a standard day hike from the highway. The Jemez Ranger District has multiple spring sites along the Jemez River drainage. Truth or Consequences (formerly named Hot Springs — residents voted in 1950 to rename the town after a radio show, winning a live broadcast in exchange) was built around artesian hot spring wells draining from the fault zone. The municipal baths are still operating. Radium Springs near Las Cruces is a geothermal locality used by Puebloan peoples for millennia.
