Hot Springs in Montana
Montana's hot springs concentrate in two zones: the volcanic belt from Yellowstone north through the Absaroka-Beartooth range, and the isolated geothermal pockets of the far west. Boiling River near Gardiner enters the Yellowstone River from a cliff — mixing scalding spring water with cold river current creates a walkable soaking zone (when open). Chico Hot Springs in Paradise Valley has been a Montana resort since 1900. Lolo Hot Springs near Missoula is on US-12 with developed facilities. The Boulder Hot Springs near Boulder is in a historic roadhouse. Potosi Hot Springs in the Gallatin National Forest has primitive camping and natural pools. Many Montana springs are on Forest Service land with no developed facilities.
Always test water temperature before soaking. Some natural hot springs exceed 150°F and are dangerous. Never soak alone in remote sites. Explore all hot springs on the Trek4Free map →
