Hot Springs in Idaho

Idaho is the hot spring capital of the lower 48. The Snake River Plain sits over one of the most geothermally active regions outside Yellowstone, and the state has over 300 named hot spring sites — more than any other state in the contiguous US. Boise alone has dozens of soaking pools within two hours. Kirkham Hot Springs on the South Fork of the Payette River has roadside pools that fill from rock crevices above a whitewater river. Jerry Johnson Hot Springs in the Clearwater National Forest is accessed by a 2-mile trail. Boat Box Hot Springs on the Middle Fork of the Salmon requires a multi-day float trip. Burgdorf Hot Springs near McCall is a historic bathhouse accessible by maintained road. The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness alone has dozens of backcountry springs.
