Free Camping in Wyoming
Wyoming's dispersed camping is primarily in the Bridger-Teton, Shoshone, and Bighorn national forests outside the national parks. The Bridger-Teton surrounding Grand Teton National Park has extensive dispersed camping on the Hoback and Snake River drainages. The Wind River Range is the most backcountry-focused: the Pinedale and Lander districts have dispersed camping throughout the range outside the designated wilderness. The Bighorn National Forest east of the Bighorn Basin has dispersed sites in Medicine Wheel country and the Cloud Peak Wilderness approach roads.
No reservations needed for dispersed camping. Check fire restrictions at fs.usda.gov before your trip — restrictions change frequently in summer. Stay limit is typically 14 days at any one location. Find free camping on the Trek4Free map →
Before You Go
Gear up for dispersed camping — no hookups, no camp store, no running water
