Free Camping in Wisconsin
Wisconsin's Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in the north allows dispersed camping on national forest land. The Whisker Lake Wilderness and the Headwaters Wilderness have backcountry camping. The Nicolet unit around Florence and Eagle River has the highest density of lake-access dispersed sites.
No reservations needed for dispersed camping. Check fire restrictions at fs.usda.gov before your trip — restrictions change frequently in summer. Stay limit is typically 14 days at any one location. Find free camping on the Trek4Free map →
