Free Camping in Washington
Washington's national forests are dense with dispersed camping options on the Olympic Peninsula, the Cascades, and the northeast corner. The Okanogan-Wenatchee national forest east of the Cascades has the easiest access — the Methow Valley area and the Wenatchee River drainage have road-accessible sites with quick access from Seattle. The Gifford Pinchot national forest south of Mount Rainier has dispersed camping through the Randle and Wind River ranger districts. The Olympic National Forest on the peninsula has dispersed sites in the lowland areas outside the national park boundary. Washington campfire permits are required (free) during dry season.
No reservations needed for dispersed camping. Check fire restrictions at fs.usda.gov before your trip — restrictions change frequently in summer. Stay limit is typically 14 days at any one location. Find free camping on the Trek4Free map →
Before You Go
Gear up for dispersed camping — no hookups, no camp store, no running water
