Free Camping in Nevada
Nevada's dispersed camping is largely BLM land rather than national forest — the state is 87% federal land. The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest covers the mountain ranges rising from the Great Basin. The Ruby Mountains east of Elko have the most established dispersed camping in the forest. The Spring Mountains National Recreation Area near Las Vegas has higher-elevation dispersed sites above the desert. Most Nevada BLM dispersed camping is on open range with no facilities — self-sufficient camping only.
No reservations needed for dispersed camping. Check fire restrictions at fs.usda.gov before your trip — restrictions change frequently in summer. Stay limit is typically 14 days at any one location. Find free camping on the Trek4Free map →
