14 No-Fee Sites 2 with Restroom 2 with Water

Alabama's Talladega National Forest in the northeast part of the state permits dispersed camping. The Cheaha Wilderness near Anniston has some backcountry camping. The William B. Bankhead National Forest in the northwest has dispersed sites in the Sipsey Wilderness. Alabama's national forest dispersed camping is best in spring and fall due to summer heat and humidity.

No reservations needed for dispersed camping. Check fire restrictions at fs.usda.gov before your trip — restrictions change frequently in summer. Stay limit is typically 14 days at any one location. Find free camping on the Trek4Free map →
