Longhorn Cavern, Texas

Burnet, TX. Confederate gunpowder was manufactured here. Sam Bass the outlaw used it as a hideout. The Comanche held councils in the main chamber. State park — guided tours daily.

Colossal Cave, Arizona

Rincon Mountains near Tucson. Wells Fargo robbery in 1884 — the outlaws ran here and were captured, but the gold was never recovered. It may still be in the cave. Public tours available.

Mammoth Cave, Kentucky

The longest known cave system in the world. Prehistoric humans explored it 4,000 years ago. A mummified person was found inside. National Park — guided tours at multiple levels.

Wind Cave, South Dakota

Lakota emergence story — this is where the first people came up from the underworld into this world. One of the densest cave systems on earth. Black Hills National Park.
