Caves in Virginia

19 Caves Found

Virginia's Shenandoah Valley contains the densest concentration of show caves in the eastern United States. Luray Caverns is the most visited cave east of the Mississippi, with its Stalacpipe Organ tapping stalactites across 3.5 acres. Grand Caverns near Grottoes has been open since 1806 — visited by Stonewall Jackson's troops and Thomas Jefferson. Shenandoah Caverns is the only elevator-access cave in the state. The geology runs continuously from Front Royal to the Tennessee border.

Every cave listed here is on public or accessible land. Always bring three light sources, water, and let someone know your plans before entering any undeveloped cave. Temperature inside: typically 50–62°F year-round. Explore all caves on the Trek4Free map →
