Caves in Texas

28 Caves Found

Texas sits on a limestone karst belt running through the Edwards Plateau — one of the richest cave regions in North America. Natural Bridge Caverns north of San Antonio is the largest known commercial cavern in Texas. Caverns of Sonora near I-10 holds helictite formations that geologists consider among the most spectacular in the world. Inner Space Cavern in Georgetown was discovered when an I-35 survey drill punched through the ceiling — the fossil collection inside includes Columbian mammoth and dire wolf bones from the cave floor. The Hill Country is limestone country; caves are under much of it.

Every cave listed here is on public or accessible land. Always bring three light sources, water, and let someone know your plans before entering any undeveloped cave. Temperature inside: typically 50–62°F year-round. Explore all caves on the Trek4Free map →
