New Hampshire's geology — granite, schist, and metamorphic rock — produces dramatic cliffs but almost no karst caves. Lost River Gorge in Kinsman Notch is the closest thing: boulder caves and scramble passages through a glacially carved gorge, with ladders and short tunnel sections. It's a geological feature worth experiencing even if it's not a traditional solution cave.
Every cave listed here is on public or accessible land. Always bring three light sources, water, and let someone know your plans before entering any undeveloped cave. Temperature inside: typically 50–62°F year-round. Explore all caves on the Trek4Free map →
