Maryland has very limited cave geography. Crystal Grottos Caverns near Boonsboro is the state's only show cave — a half-mile cavern discovered during road construction in 1920 with a 54°F temperature. The limestone geology in Washington County connects to the broader Valley and Ridge cave country of Virginia and Pennsylvania, but most of the karst development crosses the state line before it gets interesting.
Every cave listed here is on public or accessible land. Always bring three light sources, water, and let someone know your plans before entering any undeveloped cave. Temperature inside: typically 50–62°F year-round. Explore all caves on the Trek4Free map →
