Indiana's southern karst — the Mitchell Plain and Crawford Upland — is a significant cave region. Marengo Cave and Wyandotte Caves are both state-managed, with Wyandotte holding 35 miles of mapped passage and a 35-foot calcite mountain inside a single underground room. Multiple tour options range from 30-minute walks to three-hour wild caving expeditions. The southern Indiana karst is dense and largely uncrowded outside of peak summer weekends.
